Since 1999, International punk band Gogol Bordello, led by Ukrainian frontman Eugene Hütz, has been filling up rooms with an energy that could run a whole city. A lifelong lover of the punk scene growing up in Ukraine, Hütz finally found himself where he felt he belonged, in New York’s Lower East Side in the late 90s, where he went to shows and later performed at the legendary CBGB. 

 

Crashing at friends’ apartments and playing acoustic sets in NYC Ukrainian bars, his group steadily grew to an 8 piece multicultural band, combining Eastern, Western and Latin traditions. Since then the band has lit up stages around the world alongside System of a Down, Primus, Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, dueted with Regina Spektor, and cut albums with legends Rick Rubin, Steve Albini and a forthcoming album with Nic Launay. Russia's war in Ukraine is personal for Eugene & the band, who have been tirelessly advocating for Ukrainian solidarity, partnering with Nova Ukraine, ArtDopomoga, and putting together benefits with Patti Smith, The Hold Steady, Suzanne Vega, Magnetic Fields, Matisyahu and more. Hütz has also appeared in arthouse films such as Liev Schreiber’s Everything Is Illuminated with Elijah Wood, Filth and Wisdom helmed by Madonna and Vice documentary Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story (Executive Producer Liev Schreiber).

Od 1999 roku międzynarodowy punkowy zespół Gogol Bordello, prowadzony przez urodzonego w Ukrainie Eugene’a Hütza, wypełnia sale energią, która mogłaby zasilić całe miasto. 

Hütz dorastał w Ukrainie, od zawsze blisko sceny punkowej. Pod koniec lat 90. trafił do nowojorskiego Lower East Side, gdzie wreszcie poczuł, że jest na swoim miejscu. Najpierw chodził na koncerty, a później sam występował w legendarnym klubie CBGB. Nocował u znajomych, grał akustyczne sety w ukraińskich barach w Nowym Jorku, a jego projekt stopniowo przekształcił się w ośmioosobowy, wielokulturowy zespół łączący tradycje Wschodu, Zachodu i Ameryki Łacińskiej.

Od tamtej pory Gogol Bordello rozgrzewali sceny na całym świecie u boku System of a Down, Primus, Rancid czy Dropkick Murphys, występowali w duecie z Reginą Spektor oraz nagrywali albumy z legendami takimi jak Rick Rubin i Steve Albini. W planach jest także nowy materiał tworzony z producentem Nicem Launayem.

Wojna Rosji przeciwko Ukrainie to dla Eugene’a i zespołu sprawa osobista. Artyści nieustannie angażują się w działania na rzecz wsparcia Ukrainy – współpracują z organizacjami Nova Ukraine i ArtDopomoga, organizują koncerty charytatywne m.in. z Patti Smith, The Hold Steady, Suzanne Vegą, Magnetic Fields i Matisyahu.

Hütz pojawił się również w filmach arthouse’owych, takich jak „Everything Is Illuminated” w reżyserii Lieva Schreibera z Elijah Woodem, „Filth and Wisdom” w reżyserii Madonny oraz w dokumencie Vice „Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story” (produkcja wykonawcza: Liev Schreiber).
