Jozef Van Wissem - niekonwencjonalny kompozytor oraz barokowy lutnista w jednym. Uznanie zdobył dzięki swojemu innowacyjnemu podejściu do ukochanego instrumentu, czyli „wyzwoleniu lutni”, jak sam ma w zwyczaju to określać.
Van Wissem to awangardowy artysta, podróżujący ze swoją czarną, barokową lutnią po niemal całym świecie. Jego ponadczasowa muzyka opisywana jest jako hipnotyczna, minimalistyczna i atmosferyczna - świadomie łącząca piękno z mroczną, medytacyjną estetyką. W jego tekstach da się usłyszeć chrześcijański, a często i mityczny wydźwięk; porusza tematy miłości, wiary, życia pozagrobowego - często z mantryczną wręcz powtarzalnością.
Współpracuje z reżyserem i muzykiem Jimem Jarmuschem, m.in. przy nagradzanej ścieżce dźwiękowej do filmu Only Lovers Left Alive, za którą Van Wissem zdobył nagrodę Cannes Soundtrack Award w 2013 roku.
