Kohlstedt określa swój styl jako „modularne kompozycje” – utwory są w ciągłym ruchu, a improwizacja odgrywa kluczową rolę podczas koncertów. Występował na całym świecie – od Elbphilharmonie w Hamburgu, przez SXSW w Austin, po Amsterdam Dance Event.

Współpracował z artystami takimi jak Sudan Archives, Henrik Schwarz, Douglas Dare i chórem Gewandhaus z Lipska. Komponuje także muzykę do filmów, spektakli i podcastów. Prowadzi własną wytwórnię Edition Kohlstedt oraz projekt zalesiania w rodzinnych stronach w Niemczech.

Martin Kohlstedt is one of the most compelling contemporary composers, pianists, and producers of instrumental and electronic music. His work blends classical piano, ambient, electronica, and field recordings into immersive and emotionally charged sound experiences.

Kohlstedt describes his approach as “modular composition” — his pieces are constantly evolving, and improvisation plays a central role in his live performances. He has toured internationally, performing at venues and festivals such as Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, SXSW Austin, and Amsterdam Dance Event.

He has collaborated with artists like Sudan Archives, Henrik Schwarz, Douglas Dare, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Choir. In addition to his solo work, he composes for films, theater productions, and podcasts. He runs his own label, Edition Kohlstedt, and leads a reforestation project in his native region of Germany.
