Mogwai powstało w 1995 roku w Glasgow. Zespół tworzą Stuart Braithwaite (gitara, wokal), Barry Burns (gitara, fortepian, syntezator, wokal), Dominic Aitchison (gitara basowa) oraz Martin Bulloch (perkusja). Od 1997 roku wydali dziesięć albumów studyjnych, a As The Love Continues z 2021 roku, odniósł zarówno sukces komercyjny, jak i krytyczny – zdobył pierwsze miejsce na Oficjalnej Liście Albumów w Wielkiej Brytanii, otrzymał nominację do Mercury Prize oraz wygrał nagrodę Scottish Album of the Year.
Zespół stworzył także muzykę do projektów wyprodukowanych przez Amazon Prime i Apple TV+. Na początku tego roku ogłoszono, że Blazing Griffin, Adler Entertainment, Rock Action Records oraz Screen Scotland zakończyły postprodukcję Mogwai: If The Stars Had A Sound – pierwszego dokumentu o zespole, wyreżyserowanego przez ich wieloletniego współpracownika Antony’ego Crooka. Światowa premiera filmu odbyła się w marcu 2024 roku na festiwalu South by Southwest (SXSW) w Austin w Teksasie, a obecnie jest on prezentowany na festiwalach filmowych na całym świecie.
